Forensic toxicologists are asked to estimate the time of drug use in cases involving motor vehicle and workplace accidents. This information may aid in determining the role of active drug in explaining events. The work of Huestis et al. and Manno et al. have explored this issue related to use of marijuana. Huestis et al. developed two mathematical models relating parent THC and metabolite plasma concentrations to time of administration. These mathematical equations were then validated by predicting time of marijuana use for several clinical studies. Although cocaine, amphetamines, and opioids, such as heroin, are also associated with abuse and drugged driving, little information has been published regarding time of use of these drugs.
